Space Between two Buildings  

 

 

  
"In my painting I investigate different ways in which I can describe illusion of space. Sometimes I let objects or lines float on the picture plane, sometimes I imagine shapes as holes that take you behind the flat surface of the picture 'inside' it. All the while I am aware of the painting being about the moment and all the layers of colour are about layers of moments all squashed together.

I work both intuitively and analytically, getting into the feeling of the day, working the paint around without forming it into anything, feeling the subject rather than looking at it. This process is coupled with that of intense looking, watching how one shape or mark relates to another. Often I get it 'wrong' and I choose to leave mistakes to show the fallibility of my seeing, letting go of an expectation of a particular result."

Belinda lives and works in Glasgow. She exhibits locally and internationally and when not painting in her studio she teaches workshops in painting and drawing.
